A Netflix acaba de anunciar que está desenvolvendo um novo anime de ”Ghost in the Shell”, intitulado Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. Com estreia prevista para 2020, o projeto terá diretores como Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) e Shinji Araki (Appleseed).

Originalmente criado por Masamune Shirow como um mangá, a história cyberpunk de Ghost in the Shell segue a Major Motoko Kusanagi, líder da Seção 9, uma força-tarefa que combate crimes tecnológicos e ciberterrorismo em nome da Comissão Nacional Japonesa de Segurança Pública, em um futuro cyberpunk onde quase todos os seres humanos tem uma certa quantidade de implantes cibernéticos. O próprio corpo de Kusanaki é inteiramente artificial.
Ghost in the Shell já foi adaptado para anime inúmeras vezes, incluindo o clássico filme de 1995 e a aclamada série Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, exibido de 2002 a 2003, contabilizando 52 episódios.
